Reusing a concrete jar: supplies you may need
Our concrete jars are made to be reused once the candle is finished. These steps and supplies help you give the jar a second life.
Remove the last of the wax
Stop burning when about 1 cm of wax is left. Once cool, put the jar in the freezer for an hour so the wax shrinks and lifts out, or loosen it with a butter knife. Wipe the inside with a paper towel.
Clean
Wash with mild soap, warm water and a soft brush. Concrete is porous, so let it dry fully, ideally overnight, before you use it again. Do not put it in the dishwasher.
Protect surfaces
Concrete can scratch wood and glass. Stick felt pads under the base.
Planter tips
Our jars have no drainage hole. Use plants that like dry soil, such as small succulents, add a layer of pebbles at the bottom and water lightly. Water may mark the outside of the concrete over time.
Quick buying checklist
- Wax fully removed and jar washed
- Jar dried overnight
- Felt pads on the base
- Pebbles and a fast-draining mix if you use it as a planter
